The story of Wellmap didn’t begin with funding rounds or pitch decks. It began with pain. A simple toothache — at the worst possible moment, in a foreign country.
Ivan Osotov, co-founder of Wellmap, was living in Estonia at the time. As an IT entrepreneur and digital nomad, he built contact centres, automated global businesses, and travelled frequently. But when health issues struck abroad, he found himself facing a frustrating truth:
“When you’re in a foreign country and dealing with a health problem, you don’t have time to study the market. You need answers — fast. Where do I go? What does it cost? Who’s the doctor? How do I get there?”
From the First Idea to the First Product
That experience sparked the idea for Dento, a mobile app that let users upload a dental X-ray and receive offers from verified clinics. The project was accepted into an accelerator in Estonia and presented at Web Summit in Lisbon — the feedback was strong.
But something was missing. The team realised that technology alone isn’t enough. Patients don’t just want a list of prices — they need a complete support system: a doctor, a treatment plan, and a trusted advisor who’s with them every step of the way.
That’s How Wellmap Was Born
Today, Wellmap is a platform for medical tourism, built to make treatment abroad simple, safe, and transparent. The global medical tourism market is growing fast — one 2032 forecast puts annual growth at 12.2%, with estimates from other research firms ranging well into the hundreds of billions of dollars by the early 2030s.
