Liposuction in Turkey costs £1,500–3,500 for most single or multi-area treatments — compared to £3,000–7,000 in the UK. Istanbul’s cosmetic surgery clinics perform liposuction at high volumes year-round for international patients, with well-organised packages including hospital stay, transfers, and compression garments.
Liposuction Costs in Turkey vs UK

| Single large area (abdomen, thighs, flanks) | £1,500–2,800 | £3,000–6,000 |
| Two large areas (e.g. abdomen + flanks) | £2,000–3,500 | £4,500–8,000 |
| 360 liposuction (full torso) | £2,500–4,500 | £6,000–10,000 |
| Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL — lipo + fat transfer) | £2,800–5,000 | £7,000–14,000 |
| Vaser liposuction (single area) | £1,800–3,000 | £3,500–7,000 |
Includes anaesthesia, procedure, compression garment, and 1 night clinic stay for larger procedures.
Liposuction Techniques Available in Turkey
Traditional (Tumescent) Liposuction
The standard technique. Tumescent fluid (saline with adrenaline and lidocaine) is injected into the target area to firm the fat and reduce bleeding. Fat is then removed via a cannula. Effective, well-established, suitable for all body areas. Used in the vast majority of liposuction cases worldwide.
Vaser Liposuction (Ultrasound-Assisted)
Ultrasound energy liquefies fat cells before removal, making extraction easier and potentially reducing bruising and recovery time. Also allows for more precise contouring — “high-definition” liposuction (HD lipo) that defines muscle contours uses Vaser. Available at most Istanbul cosmetic surgery clinics. Costs £300–600 more than standard technique.
Is Vaser meaningfully better? For standard body contouring, the difference in outcomes is modest. For high-definition abdominal contouring, Vaser is the standard technique. For straightforward fat removal, traditional tumescent lipo is equally effective and lower cost.
Laser Liposuction (SmartLipo / LaserLipo)
Laser energy is used to liquefy fat before removal, and may stimulate some skin tightening. Less commonly performed than Vaser at Turkish clinics — ask specifically if this matters to you.
J-Plasma (Renuvion) for Skin Tightening
Sometimes combined with liposuction for patients with mild to moderate skin laxity. Plasma energy is delivered under the skin to stimulate contraction. Can produce meaningful improvement in skin tone where a tummy tuck would be too extensive. Not a replacement for surgical skin removal in cases of significant laxity.
What Liposuction Can and Cannot Do
What it can do
- Remove localised fat deposits that don’t respond to diet and exercise
- Improve body contour and proportion
- Treat gynaecomastia (male breast tissue) effectively
- Harvest fat for fat transfer (BBL, facial fat grafting)
- Provide long-lasting results — removed fat cells don’t regenerate
What it cannot do
- Treat obesity or replace weight loss
- Remove significant amounts of skin — skin laxity is not improved by liposuction alone
- Improve cellulite — in some cases, liposuction can worsen cellulite appearance
- Replace a tummy tuck if there is significant excess skin and muscle separation
The most common reason patients are dissatisfied with liposuction results is treating an area with poor skin elasticity — the skin doesn’t contract well after fat removal, and irregularities or loose skin become more visible. Your surgeon should assess skin quality honestly and advise if a combination with skin removal (tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift) would produce a better result.
Planning Your Istanbul Lipo Trip
Before you travel
Send your surgeon photos of the areas you want treated — front, side, and back in adequate lighting. They’ll assess whether your skin quality and fat distribution are suitable for liposuction alone, or whether additional procedures would produce a better result.
Most Turkish clinics require you to be within a healthy weight range before performing liposuction (typically BMI under 30–32). Liposuction is not a weight loss tool — it’s most effective on patients at or near their target weight with stubborn localised fat.
Your trip timeline
Day 1: Arrival, pre-op consultation with surgeon, marking of treatment areas, pre-op bloods.
Day 2: Procedure under general anaesthesia (tumescent lipo of multiple areas) or local anaesthesia (small single areas). Duration: 1–3 hours depending on areas. Most patients stay overnight.
Day 3: Discharge. Compression garment fitted. Short walks only.
Days 4–5: Rest. Significant bruising and swelling — this is normal. Lymphatic drainage massage often starts at day 3–5.
Day 6: Follow-up with surgeon. Cleared to fly if uncomplicated.
Day 7: Fly home.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage massage accelerates recovery from liposuction significantly — reducing swelling, bruising, and improving contour results. Most Turkish clinics include 1–3 sessions in the package. Some recovery hotels have in-house massage therapists specialising in post-liposuction care. If offered, take it.
On return to the UK, arrange further lymphatic drainage massage sessions (typically 5–10 over 4–6 weeks). These are available from specialist massage therapists in most UK cities.
Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) in Turkey
The BBL — fat transferred from the abdomen and flanks into the buttocks — is one of the most requested procedures at Istanbul clinics. Turkey offers BBL at £2,800–5,000, compared to £7,000–14,000 in the UK or US.
Safety: BBL has historically been the highest-mortality cosmetic procedure globally, due to the risk of fat embolism (fat entering gluteal blood vessels). This risk is technique-dependent — proper technique (superficial fat grafting above the muscle, not into it) has dramatically reduced fatality rates. Ask your surgeon specifically about their technique and their complication rate for BBL.
Only have a BBL with a board-certified plastic surgeon experienced in high-volume BBL cases. This is not a procedure for cost-minimising at the expense of surgeon qualification.
Recovery at Home
Weeks 1–3
- Compression garment worn 24 hours a day except showering
- Significant bruising and swelling — final results not visible for 3–6 months
- Avoid sitting directly on treated buttock areas (BBL patients)
- No strenuous exercise
- Stay well hydrated
Months 1–3
- Bruising fully resolved by 4–6 weeks
- Swelling gradually reducing
- Compression garment typically worn for 6–8 weeks total
- Light exercise (walking, light cycling) from week 4
- Avoid high-impact exercise until 6 weeks
Final results
Liposuction results are typically 70–80% visible at 3 months, with final contouring at 6 months once all swelling has resolved. Some patients see continued improvement to 12 months. Weight gain after liposuction will distribute differently — remaining fat cells elsewhere will expand.
Choosing a Surgeon
For liposuction, the relevant credential is plastic surgery board certification (TPCD in Turkey, ISAPS internationally). Body contouring subspecialty experience is important for multi-area or high-definition cases.
Ask specifically:
- How many liposuction procedures do you perform per year?
- Do you have before-and-after photos of patients with similar anatomy to mine?
- What technique will you use, and why is it appropriate for my areas?
- What is your approach to skin quality — will you advise against liposuction if skin laxity is significant?
A surgeon who is honest about limitations — who tells you that your skin quality means you’d benefit more from a tummy tuck than liposuction alone — is a surgeon worth trusting.
