For most cosmetic procedures, Turkey is clearly cheaper than Spain. A rhinoplasty or breast augmentation usually costs a few thousand less in Turkey, and that’s before you compare packages that include a hotel. Spain doesn’t win on price. It wins on checkability: one official specialist title you can verify, EU rules, and a shorter trip back if something needs looking at. If price matters most to you and you’re willing to check the surgeon yourself, choose Turkey. If you can’t do that checking, or you expect to need follow-up, the extra cost of Spain is worth it.
Choose Turkey if…
- Price is the deciding factor. Rhinoplasty starts around $3,000 and breast augmentation packages around €3,400.
- You want an all-inclusive package, with surgery, hotel, transfers and garments in one quote.
- Your procedure is a straightforward primary operation (a first rhinoplasty or a standard augmentation) rather than a revision or reconstruction.
- You can stay in Istanbul until your surgeon clears you to fly and won’t rush home after a few days.
Choose Spain if…
- You want to verify your surgeon against a single official title, “Especialista en Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reparadora”, rather than piece together credentials yourself.
- Your case involves revision or reconstruction, for example breast surgery after cancer. Teknon in Barcelona covers both from one hospital department.
- You live in Western Europe and want follow-up appointments within the EU and closer to home.
- You’d rather be treated in a JCI-accredited hospital than a standalone aesthetic clinic.

Where It’s Close, and Where It Isn’t
Not close on price for standard procedures. For a first rhinoplasty or a standard augmentation, Turkey’s typical range sits below Spain’s, and Turkish packages often include the hotel and transfers too.
Closer than it looks at the low end. Spanish prices overlap with Turkish ones for simpler procedures. One Barcelona clinic lists breast augmentation with round implants up to 265cc at €2,995. Once you add flights and a week’s hotel, a cheap Spanish quote can come close to a Turkish package. Compare total cost, not the headline price.
Not close on how easy it is to check. In Spain, one official title and one society membership list cover most of what you need to check. In Turkey, the UK Foreign Office points out that there is no GMC or CQC equivalent. It reports 28 British nationals dying after elective medical procedures in Turkey since 2019, seven of them in 2025. That figure covers all elective procedures, not only cosmetic surgery, and needs to be read against the very large number of patients Turkey treats. Still, it’s the reason to check the surgeon yourself, not just the clinic’s website. Turkey’s 2025 regulation helps: facilities treating foreign patients need a Ministry of Health authorization certificate and complication insurance, and certified providers are listed on the HealthTürkiye portal.
Who This Doesn’t Suit
- If you can’t stay until your surgeon clears you to fly, neither country is the right choice for now. Common guidance is 5–7 days after breast surgery or liposuction and 7–10 days after facial surgery or a tummy tuck. Some surgeons advise 2–3 weeks after a tummy tuck, and at least 2 weeks before any flight over 4 hours.
- If you’re combining several procedures into one trip to save money, the longer operation and longer recovery change the risk. Ask each surgeon whether they would stage the procedures instead.
- If you’re an EU citizen hoping to be reimbursed, cross-border cover under the EU directive applies only to treatment your home system would pay for. Purely cosmetic surgery usually isn’t covered, so don’t count on Spain being reimbursed.
What to Bring
- Medical history and current medication list, including anything that affects bleeding or anaesthesia (blood thinners, supplements, hormonal medication)
- Recent blood tests, and for breast surgery any recent mammogram or ultrasound
- Operative notes from any previous surgery in the same area. These are essential for revision rhinoplasty or a second breast operation.
- Photos showing what you want, and what you don’t
- For reconstruction after cancer: your oncology team’s clearance and notes on any radiotherapy
Getting Started
Ask both countries the same three questions. What exactly is included in the price (implant brand, garments, follow-up visits)? What is the surgeon’s specialist title, and where can you check it? On what date will the surgeon clear you to fly? The answers will tell you more about the real cost than the headline price.
