India and Turkey are the two most common answers for patients who need heart surgery and can’t afford it — or can’t wait for it — at home. The price gap between them is large and consistent. The reason to choose the more expensive one is not quality, and it’s worth being specific about what it is.
Choose India if…
- Cost decides whether surgery happens at all — India is roughly half the Turkish price across the major procedures
- You need angioplasty: India caps stent prices by law
- You want a hospital with very high cardiac volume
- You can spend several weeks there and fly long-haul once you’re cleared
Choose Turkey if…
- You live in Europe and want a short flight home after surgery
- Follow-up visits need to be realistic, not theoretical
- You want JCI-accredited private hospitals — most of the verified Istanbul cardiac hospitals hold it
- You need Arabic, Russian or German alongside English

The Stent Cap Is a Real Advantage
India’s National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority sets a legal ceiling on coronary stent prices. From 1 April 2026 it is ₹10,762.15 per bare-metal stent and ₹39,186.03 per drug-eluting stent — the cap also covers bioresorbable scaffolds — exclusive of GST.
That matters most for angioplasty, where the number of stents is the largest variable in the bill. But the cap applies to the stent, not the procedure: hospital charges, the catheter lab and the stay are priced separately. Ask for an itemised quote and check the stent line against the cap.
The Real Reason to Pay More: The Flight Home
The honest case for Turkey isn’t clinical superiority. Both countries have high-volume, internationally accredited cardiac centres.
It’s distance. After heart surgery, a long flight carries real risks — clotting, low cabin oxygen, and in the worst cases cardiac events — and your surgeon will not clear you until it’s safe. From most of Europe, Istanbul is a few hours away. India is considerably further. If something needs checking in month two, one of those is a trip you can make and the other may not be.
So the decision usually comes down to this: if the saving makes surgery possible, India. If you can afford either and live in Europe, the shorter flight is worth paying for.

Making the Quotes Comparable
- Send the same angiogram to every hospital. It’s what determines whether you need a stent, a bypass or a valve — and how many.
- For angioplasty, ask how many stents and which type the quote assumes.
- Ask how many days in hospital are included, and the daily rate if you need more.
- Ask when the surgeon expects to clear you to fly, and get it in writing before you book a return.
